These spooky mummy jalapeño poppers wrapped in crescent dough are an easy, crowd-pleasing Halloween appetizer with a cheesy, creamy filling and a playful mummy look.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 medium-sized fresh jalapeños
  • 8 ounces (225 g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup (100 g) sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste (about 1/4 teaspoon each)
  • 1 can crescent dough sheets (about 8 oz or 227 g)
  • 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. Wearing gloves if you have them, slice each jalapeño in half lengthwise. Use a spoon to scoop out the seeds and membranes if you want to reduce heat.
  3. In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth and evenly blended.
  4. Spoon the cheese mixture generously into each jalapeño half without overfilling.
  5. Unroll the crescent dough on a clean surface and press the perforations to seal. Cut the dough into thin strips about 1/2 inch (1.3 cm) wide.
  6. Wrap the dough strips around each stuffed jalapeño half, leaving a small gap for ‘eyes’. Overlap strips slightly and tuck ends underneath to secure.
  7. Brush the wrapped dough lightly with the beaten egg using a basting brush.
  8. Place two tiny dots of black peppercorns, olives, or small sliced black olives on each popper for eyes.
  9. Bake the poppers on the prepared baking sheet for 15-20 minutes until dough is puffed and golden brown and cheese filling is bubbly.
  10. Let the poppers cool for about 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

If crescent dough gets too warm and sticky, chill it in the fridge before wrapping. Twisting dough strips slightly before wrapping adds texture. Use gloves when handling jalapeños to avoid skin irritation. Watch baking time closely to avoid burning. Egg wash is important for a shiny golden crust. Moderate filling to prevent cheese leakage.
