A bright, icy slushie mocktail combining fresh strawberries, basil, and lemonade for a refreshing summer drink that’s quick and easy to make.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups fresh strawberries, hulled and roughly chopped
  • 1012 fresh basil leaves
  • 1 cup fresh lemonade (homemade or store-bought, not overly sweetened)
  • 1 to 1 ½ cups ice cubes
  • 12 tablespoons honey or agave syrup (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice (optional)

Instructions

  1. Rinse and hull the strawberries, roughly chop them for easier blending. Pick fresh basil leaves, rinse, and pat dry. If using fresh lemons, squeeze out the juice now.
  2. Combine the strawberries, basil leaves, lemonade, ice cubes, and honey (if using) in the blender. Add fresh lemon juice if desired for extra citrus tang.
  3. Blend on low speed gradually increasing to high for about 1 minute until smooth and slushy. Pulse a few times if needed to break down ice chunks.
  4. Taste and adjust sweetness or thickness by adding more honey/agave or lemonade as needed, then blend briefly again.
  5. Pour into chilled glasses and garnish with a basil leaf or strawberry slice. Serve immediately.

Notes

Use firm, brightly colored strawberries for best texture. Frozen strawberries can be used but should be thawed slightly before blending. Adjust ice quantity for desired slush thickness. Bruise basil leaves before blending to release more flavor. Freeze lemonade in ice cube trays to avoid watering down the drink. Serve immediately for best texture. Leftovers can be stored in freezer up to 24 hours and re-blended before serving.
