A fast and flavorful 20-minute weeknight dinner featuring seared salmon fillets glazed in a sweet and savory honey garlic sauce, served with steamed broccoli.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 salmon fillets (approx. 6 oz each)
  • 1 tablespoon neutral oil (avocado or olive oil)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 34 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 23 tablespoons water
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons water (for steaming broccoli)

Instructions

  1. Pat salmon fillets dry with paper towels and season both sides generously with salt and pepper.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, apple cider vinegar, red pepper flakes, and 2-3 tablespoons of water until smooth.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add oil. Heat until shimmering but not smoking.
  4. Place salmon in the pan, skin-side down if applicable. Sear undisturbed for 3-4 minutes until edges turn opaque.
  5. Flip salmon carefully and cook for another 1-2 minutes.
  6. Pour the honey garlic sauce into the pan around the salmon. Tilt pan and spoon sauce over fish. Simmer for 30 seconds until slightly thickened.
  7. Push salmon to one side of the pan. Add broccoli florets to the empty space.
  8. Add 2 tablespoons of water to the pan and cover with a lid for 2 minutes to steam the broccoli.
  9. Remove lid, let water evaporate, and toss broccoli in the remaining sauce until tender-crisp.
  10. Remove from heat and serve immediately, garnished with sesame seeds or green onions if desired.

Notes

Do not overcook the salmon; it should be slightly translucent in the center when removed from heat as it will continue to cook. Ensure the fish is very dry before searing to prevent steaming. If using frozen salmon, thaw completely and pat very dry. Garlic burns easily, so mixing it into the sauce bowl prevents burning compared to frying it in oil first.
