A festive and easy patriotic dessert featuring a fudgy brownie base topped with fresh strawberries, blueberries, and whipped cream stars arranged like the American flag.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream, chilled
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (for whipped cream)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease your pizza pan or baking dish lightly with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the melted butter and granulated sugar. Whisk until smooth and glossy, about 2 minutes.
  3. Crack in the eggs one at a time, whisking well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder.
  5. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture using a spatula. Stop mixing as soon as the flour disappears.
  6. Pour the batter onto your prepared pan and smooth it out evenly with a spatula, about 1/2 inch thick.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes. Check doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center; it should come out with a few moist crumbs.
  8. Cool the brownie completely in the pan on a wire rack, about 1 hour.
  9. In a chilled bowl, beat the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
  10. Spread the whipped cream over the top-left corner of the brownie to form the star field.
  11. Arrange blueberries within the whipped cream area to represent stars.
  12. Line up sliced strawberries in alternating rows to mimic the stripes of the flag.
  13. Serve immediately or chill up to 2 hours before serving.

Notes

Do not overmix the batter to keep brownies fudgy. Use room temperature eggs for smooth batter. Chill bowls and beaters for whipped cream to whip faster and fluffier. Cool brownies completely before decorating to prevent toppings from sliding. Use a small offset spatula or butter knife for cleaner fruit edges. Pat berries dry if they start to release juice.
