Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (16.3 oz) refrigerated buttermilk biscuits (Pillsbury Grands style, layered not flaky)
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 12 tablespoons milk or heavy cream
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9-inch round baking dish or 8×8 square pan with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. Make the pumpkin filling: In a medium bowl, combine pumpkin puree, softened butter, brown sugar, pumpkin pie spice, vanilla extract, and salt. Mix until smooth.
  3. Prepare the biscuit dough: Open the can of refrigerated biscuits. Separate them and place on a lightly floured surface. Roll each biscuit into an oval about 1/4 inch thick (4-5 inches long, 3 inches wide).
  4. Spread about 1 tablespoon of pumpkin filling onto each rolled-out biscuit, leaving a small border around the edges.
  5. Starting from the wider end, roll each biscuit up tightly like a log. Pinch the seam to seal. Place seam-side down in the prepared baking dish, leaving a little space between rolls.
  6. Bake for 15-18 minutes, until golden brown and cooked through. If tops brown too quickly, tent loosely with foil for the last 5 minutes.
  7. While rolls bake, make the maple icing: In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, maple syrup, melted butter, and a pinch of salt. Add milk or cream one tablespoon at a time until desired consistency is reached.
  8. Let rolls cool in the pan for about 5 minutes. Drizzle maple icing generously over the warm rolls.
  9. Serve warm.

Notes

Don’t overwork the dough. Use room temperature ingredients. Check pumpkin puree moisture level. Watch baking time closely. Let rolls cool slightly before icing. Double the icing if desired.
