These easy overnight oats breakfast jars are a quick, no-cook breakfast that you can prep in just 5 minutes the night before. Perfect for busy school mornings, they’re creamy, customizable, and made with simple ingredients like rolled oats, Greek yogurt, and fresh fruit.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (90g) rolled oats (old-fashioned oats)
  • 1 cup (240ml) milk (any kind)
  • ½ cup (120g) plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon (12g) chia seeds (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon (5ml) vanilla extract
  • ⅛ teaspoon salt
  • Fresh fruit for topping (e.g., berries, sliced bananas, diced apples)
  • Optional mix-ins: peanut butter, cinnamon, shredded coconut, dark chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. In each mason jar, add ⅓ cup (30g) of rolled oats and 1 teaspoon of chia seeds (if using). Shake to distribute.
  2. In a small bowl or liquid measuring cup, whisk together ⅓ cup (80ml) of milk, 2 heaping tablespoons (about 30g) of Greek yogurt, 2 teaspoons (10ml) of honey or maple syrup, ¼ teaspoon of vanilla extract, and a tiny pinch of salt until smooth.
  3. Pour the wet mixture over the oats in the jar. Stir well, making sure all oats are submerged. Scrape down the sides.
  4. Screw the lid on tightly and refrigerate for at least 6 hours, preferably 8-12 hours.
  5. In the morning, stir the oats. If too thick, add a splash of milk. Add toppings like fresh berries, sliced banana, a drizzle of honey, or granola. Eat cold or let sit at room temperature for 10 minutes.
  6. Optional: Microwave (without metal lid) for 30-45 seconds if you prefer warm oats. Transfer to a microwave-safe bowl first if needed.

Notes

The ratio is key: 1 part oats to about 1.3 parts liquid (including yogurt). Don’t skip the salt—it enhances sweetness. Let oats rest at least 6 hours for best texture. Batch prep 4-5 jars on Sunday for the week. Flavors develop over time; day 2 is often better. Freezing not recommended.
