Easy Fresh Caprese Skewers Recipe with Balsamic Glaze for Perfect Appetizers

A quick and simple appetizer featuring cherry tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, and basil leaves drizzled with a sweet balsamic glaze. Perfect for parties and gatherings, these skewers are fresh, flavorful, and easy to assemble.

  • 20 cherry tomatoes, washed and dried
  • 20 small fresh mozzarella balls (bocconcini or ciliegine), drained
  • 20 fresh basil leaves, washed and patted dry
  • 1/4 cup balsamic glaze (store-bought or homemade)
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • Pinch of sea salt, to taste
  • Freshly cracked black pepper, to taste (optional)
  • About 10 wooden or bamboo skewers

Instructions

  1. Rinse 20 cherry tomatoes and pat dry. If preferred, slice larger tomatoes in half for easier threading.
  2. Toss tomatoes gently in a small bowl with 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil, a pinch of sea salt, and freshly cracked black pepper. Let sit for about 5 minutes.
  3. Drain 20 mozzarella balls in a colander and pat dry with a paper towel to prevent soggy skewers.
  4. Rinse and dry 20 fresh basil leaves. Tear large leaves in half if needed to fit on skewers.
  5. Assemble skewers by threading one cherry tomato first, followed by a basil leaf (folded if large), then a mozzarella ball, and finish with another cherry tomato. Repeat until all ingredients are used, making about 10 skewers.
  6. Arrange skewers neatly on a serving platter.
  7. Drizzle about 1/4 cup balsamic glaze over the skewers in a zigzag pattern.
  8. Sprinkle a little more sea salt and freshly cracked pepper over the glaze for extra flavor.
  9. Serve immediately or chill for up to an hour before serving.

Notes

Pat mozzarella dry to avoid soggy skewers. Use firm cherry tomatoes for best texture. If glaze is too thick, warm slightly before drizzling. Assemble skewers shortly before serving to keep basil fresh. Can be made dairy-free by substituting mozzarella with firm tofu or vegan cheese. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours; bring to room temperature before serving.
