Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups assorted pretzels (mini pretzels, pretzel sticks, pretzel twists)
  • 8 oz sharp cheddar cheese, block
  • 8 oz pepper jack cheese, block
  • 8 oz gouda or smoked gouda, block
  • 8 oz Genoa salami, sliced
  • 8 oz hard salami, sliced
  • 1/2 cup honey mustard
  • 1/4 cup spicy brown mustard
  • 1 cup red or green grapes
  • 1 apple (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), sliced
  • 1/2 cup cornichons or pickles
  • 1/2 cup mixed nuts (roasted, salted almonds or cashews)

Instructions

  1. Prep Your Ingredients (5 minutes): Take cheeses out of fridge 15 minutes before assembling to bring to room temperature. Wash and dry grapes and apple. Slice apple and toss with lemon juice to prevent browning. Open bags of pretzels and nuts.
  2. Place Your Bowls First (1 minute): Put small bowls for honey mustard and spicy brown mustard on the board in opposite corners or center.
  3. Add the Cheeses (2 minutes): Place blocks of cheddar, pepper jack, and gouda around the board, spreading them out. Cut a few slices from each block to show what’s inside.
  4. Add the Meats (1 minute): Fold or roll salami slices and place in small piles or rows near cheeses. Group Genoa and hard salami separately.
  5. Fill in with Pretzels (2 minutes): Pour assorted pretzels into large empty spaces in clusters to create height and texture.
  6. Add the Fruits and Pickles (1 minute): Tuck small clusters of grapes, apple slices, and cornichons into remaining gaps near cheeses they pair best with.
  7. Finish with Nuts and Garnish (1 minute): Sprinkle mixed nuts into any tiny empty spots. Add fresh herb sprigs like rosemary or thyme for garnish if desired.
  8. Serve Immediately: Place board in center of table and let everyone dig in.

Notes

Don’t overcrowd the board; leave negative space for a luxurious look. Create height by stacking cheese and folding meat. Serve cheese at room temperature for best flavor. Use the ‘Rule of Threes’ for visual appeal. Prep fruits and veggies the night before to save time.
