This one-bowl chocolate chip pumpkin bread is moist, tender, and packed with warm spices and melted chocolate. It’s a foolproof recipe that comes together with minimal cleanup and delivers perfect results every time.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (15 oz) pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling)
  • 1¾ cups (220g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • ½ cup (100g) packed brown sugar (light or dark)
  • ½ cup (120ml) vegetable oil (or canola, melted coconut oil)
  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup (175g) semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line with parchment paper, leaving overhang on the long sides.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine pumpkin puree, vegetable oil, granulated sugar, brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth and well combined, about 1 minute.
  3. Sprinkle flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, pumpkin pie spice, and cinnamon over the wet mixture. Stir with a whisk just until no streaks of flour remain; a few small lumps are fine. Do not overmix.
  4. Fold in chocolate chips with a spatula until evenly distributed. Reserve 2 tablespoons of chips to sprinkle on top if desired.
  5. Pour batter into prepared pan and spread evenly. Sprinkle reserved chocolate chips on top and press in gently.
  6. Bake for 55-65 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs. If top browns too quickly, tent with foil after 40 minutes.
  7. Cool in pan on a wire rack for 15 minutes. Use parchment to lift bread out and transfer to rack. Cool completely (at least 1 hour) before slicing.

Notes

Do not overmix the batter to avoid tough bread. Use room temperature ingredients for best results. Check doneness by inserting toothpick into center, avoiding chocolate chips. Cool completely before slicing to prevent gummy texture. Toast leftover slices for a crispy exterior.
