Ingredients

  • Bagels (plain, everything, or sesame), sliced and toasted
  • Fresh smoked salmon (lox), thinly sliced
  • Cream cheese (plain or whipped), softened
  • Red onion, thinly sliced
  • Capers, drained
  • Fresh dill, chopped (optional)
  • Tomato, thinly sliced
  • Cucumber, thinly sliced
  • Fresh lemon wedges
  • Black pepper, freshly cracked
  • Optional extras: sliced avocado, radishes, olive oil drizzle

Instructions

  1. Preheat toaster or oven broiler.
  2. Slice bagels in half and toast until golden and slightly crisp, about 3-5 minutes.
  3. While bagels toast, thinly slice red onion, cucumber, and tomato. Chop fresh dill finely. Drain capers on paper towel.
  4. Soften cream cheese at room temperature for about 15 minutes or whip until smooth and creamy.
  5. Arrange thin slices of smoked salmon on a chilled plate.
  6. Arrange toasted bagel halves on serving tray with bowls of cream cheese, smoked salmon, and toppings.
  7. Provide fresh lemon wedges and pepper grinder for seasoning.
  8. Invite guests to assemble their own bagels with cream cheese, smoked salmon, and toppings as desired.

Notes

Toast bagels just before serving for best texture. Keep smoked salmon chilled until serving. Whip cream cheese for easier spreading. Avoid overloading bagels to prevent sogginess. Store leftovers properly and reheat bagels in oven to maintain texture.
