A vibrant and easy-to-make Hurricane cocktail recipe that captures the spirit of Mardi Gras with a perfect blend of tropical fruit juices and rum. This quick 3-step guide delivers a sweet, tangy, and refreshing drink ideal for festive celebrations or casual get-togethers.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 oz dark rum (e.g., Appleton Estate)
  • 1 oz light rum (e.g., Bacardi)
  • 2 oz passion fruit juice (fresh or bottled)
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • 1 oz simple syrup (equal parts sugar and water)
  • 1 oz orange juice
  • 1/2 oz grenadine
  • Ice cubes
  • Orange slices (for garnish)
  • Maraschino cherries (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Juice and measure all ingredients: squeeze fresh limes to get about 1 oz of juice and measure out passion fruit juice, orange juice, dark rum, light rum, simple syrup, and grenadine using a jigger.
  2. Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice cubes. Add dark rum, light rum, passion fruit juice, orange juice, fresh lime juice, simple syrup, and grenadine. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds until the shaker feels cold.
  3. Strain the mixture into a hurricane or tall glass filled with fresh ice. Garnish with an orange slice and a maraschino cherry. Stir gently and serve.

Notes

Use fresh lime juice for best flavor. Shake vigorously but not too long to avoid over-dilution. Adjust sweetness by adding more lime juice or simple syrup to taste. For batch preparation, multiply ingredients and mix in a large pitcher. Store mixed cocktail (without ice and garnishes) in the fridge up to 24 hours.
