A bold and comforting game day bowl featuring juicy steak strips tossed in spicy buffalo sauce, layered over rice or quinoa with fresh vegetables and a umami-rich miso-sesame dressing.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb flank or sirloin steak, thinly sliced
  • ½ cup classic buffalo wing sauce (e.g., Frank’s RedHot)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cups cooked rice or quinoa
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 1 cup steamed broccoli florets
  • ½ cup sliced green onions
  • 3 tablespoons white miso paste
  • 2 tablespoons toasted sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce or tamari
  • 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger (optional)
  • Optional garnishes: sesame seeds, fresh cilantro, lime squeeze

Instructions

  1. Cook 2 cups of rice or quinoa according to package instructions (about 20 minutes). Fluff with a fork and set aside to cool slightly.
  2. Slice 1 lb flank or sirloin steak thinly across the grain. Pat dry with paper towels.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together 3 tbsp white miso paste, 2 tbsp toasted sesame oil, 1 tbsp rice vinegar, 1 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tsp honey, and 1 tsp grated fresh ginger until smooth. Set aside.
  4. Heat 2 tablespoons olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. When oil shimmers, add steak strips in a single layer (cook in batches if needed). Sear for 2-3 minutes per side until browned but still juicy. Remove from pan and toss immediately with ½ cup buffalo sauce. Set aside.
  5. While steak cooks, chop 1 cup celery, shred 1 cup carrots, steam 1 cup broccoli florets until tender (3-4 minutes), and slice ½ cup green onions.
  6. Assemble bowl by layering rice or quinoa at the bottom, then arrange broccoli, carrots, celery, and green onions on top. Add buffalo-coated steak strips over the veggies.
  7. Drizzle miso-sesame dressing evenly over the bowl. Toss gently to coat or leave drizzled for presentation.
  8. Garnish with sesame seeds, fresh cilantro, and a squeeze of lime if desired. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

Do not overcrowd the skillet when searing steak strips to ensure a good sear. Toss steak in buffalo sauce immediately after cooking to lock in flavor. Slice steak thinly against the grain for tenderness. Adjust dressing thickness with water or rice vinegar if needed. Store components separately for best freshness when making ahead.
